About Us

Four Direction Batik has dedicated itself to weaving the ancient art of batik through modern techniques, to produce one of a kind wearable modern art.

At FDB we are changing the typical view of batik by bringing more of a modern & contemporary feel to the art-form. We make it a big priority to focus on detail and consistency, while letting our influences guide us. Our style embodies many different batik techniques from all of the eight directions; such as Indian, Indonesian, and West-African to name a few. Subsequently, we decided to name our company Four Direction Batik - to pay homage to all the cultures that continue to inspire us.

Company Overview:

Our goal at FDB is to provide Handmade Batik art on high quality T-shirts and Tapestries. We also offer custom WHOLESALE DESIGNS for small to large companies - including bands, music festivals, nonprofit charities, restaurants, and breweries.              https://four-direction-batik.myshopify.com/pages/wholesale

All of our Batik T-shirts are hand-drawn with wax, hand-painted, & hand-dyed to order. Each shirt takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to produce and no two are exactly alike. Thus, our shirts will last much longer than a typical silk screen shirt.

Process:

The art form of Batik is believed to be at least 2000 years old and by definition involves the application of fluid or semi-fluid substances which solidify on fabric so as to render it impenetrable to a colored dye bath.

Hot wax, resin, and paraffin wax - as well as starch, rice paste, and bean paste, and even half-fluid mud - are used as resist materials. The method in which we work is using a resist mixture of Paraffin Wax & Beeswax and then applying it to fabric.
